One of the Senior lawyers in Igbo land, Dr Jezie Ekejiuba, has described the apex Igbo socio cultural organization, Ohanaeze ndigbo as crop of self-centered leaders
The Human Rights lawyer, who is also, the President, Voters Right Association of Nigeria, (VRAN) , said Sunday, that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not representing the Igbo, rather, a group of individuals on a selfish mission with the Governors in the zone
He said the people of Southeast need only one formidable group to end what he termed the marginalization in Igbo land
It was contained in a statement in Onitsha, which was made available to The Razor in Awka, Sunday.
He said the crop of people parading themselves as leaders of Ndigbo do not have the interest of the people at heart, but self centred set of individuals.
” Ohanaeze Ndigbo should amend their constitution privately the same way any other private organisation registered under CAC Act should do and not calling for imputes from those who are not its members.
He maintained that the only way for the Igbo is to go back to the drawing board and resuscitate the Igbo state Union comprising automatic representatives of the people from the Presidents General of communities in Igbo.
According to the Activist, “Ohanaeze is not the only group advocating for Igbo interest. There are many other self- formed groups like Ohanaeze and my disagreement with Ohanaeze is that they should not arrogate to themselves the status of Igbo representatives which they are not .
“Ohanaeze is a toothless private organisation who are free to associate and assemble for the promotion of their interests in line with the Nigerian Constitution under Section 40.
“The present Igbo marginalisation could not have reached its present apogee level if the Igbo nation is united under one socio- political body.
“The only way out for the Igbo nation is to go back to the drawing board and resuscitate the Igbo State Union comprising of automatic representative membership of all the elected and recognised President Generals (PGs) of all the autonomous communities in Igboland.
“As it stands now Ohanaeze is NOT representative of the Igbo people because their leadership is always self-selected by themselves and their paymasters the Governors who are on their own.
“Igbos deserve to have ONE BODY and ONE LEADERSHIP that fights for Igbo interest at all times and not the present unelected group like Ohanaeze that only exists on the pages of newspapers, news channels of the electronic media and social media” Ekejiuba wrote
