Ajalli indigenes seek police intervention as separatists enforce Monday sit-at-home

News

Indigenes of Ajalli community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have decried the continuous enforcement of the abolished Monday sit at home order by separatist elements.

Indigenes of the community who spoke to THE RAZOR on Thursday begged the Anambra State Police Command, led by CP Aderemi Adeoye to help arrest enforcers.

A member of the community, Comrade Ifeanyi Mathew who spoke to journalists in Awka said: “Every Monday we see enforcers who say they are implementing the order given by the Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa.

“A man, Mr. Obinna Nwosu from neighbouring community, Ndiokpalaeke in the same local government area was on June 13 attacked by the efforcers and beaten up, while his tricycle was destroyed. He remained sick as a result of the beating until he died on August 25, 2023.

“Although the police arrested three persons who are said to be part of the enforcers, but we want Anambra State Police Command to intensify efforts because these people are all known in the community.

“The three that were arrested are all members of the community. Their names were given as Chidi Okoro, Ifeanyi Nweke and Emeka Nwafor. One person who was said to be a part of the attack, Ugochukwu Okereke is still at large.

“This group of people have been terrorizing Ajalli community. They compel residents of the area to stay-at-home every Monday and those who refuse to obey them have their properties and businesses destroyed.

“This situation has made the area unsafe for one to carry out one’s legitimate business,” Mathew lamented.

THE RAZOR reached the Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga on whether it arrested enforcers in the area, and efforts of the police to put an end to the Monday sit at home in the area, he promised to get back to this reporter with details.

But as at the time of filing this report, he had yet to respond.
