The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council has raised the alarm over the predicament of blind children at Basden Memorial Special School for the Blind in Isulo, in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra state.

As a consequence, the union has drawn the attention of the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo to the plight of children.

This was contained in the union’s communique of its August Congress signed by the Chairman, Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD.

The union decried the dilapidated and deplorable condition of the school and called on the state government, corporate organisations including public spirited individuals to respond to the situation .

The council equally appealed to the governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo to extend love and care to the children of the school.

The President-General of Isulo community who spoke to our correspondent on the matter said the wife of ex-governor Willie Obiano, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, did some interventions in the school.

He said as President-General of Isulo, he attracted a World Bank intervention to the school but stressed that a lot still needed to be done in the school to alleviate their sufferings, adding that the major problem at Basden Memorial Special School for the Blind was lack of electricity supply
