A member of the Anambra State #EndSARS panel and the state Chairman, Civil Liberties Organisation, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, has said that the panel received the highest petitions and the worst “chilling tales”.
Ezekwueme also added that the retired Justice Veronica Ume-led panel, inaugurated in October 2020, received 310 petitions altogether.
Addressing journalists in Onitsha , Ezekwueme, said the petitions revealed the heinous inhumanity allegedly committed by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
He said, “The defunct SARS maimed, assaulted, extorted, killed, kidnapped and caused severe fear on innocent Nigerians in the name of fighting crimes and criminality.
“They committed the worst atrocities ever and got away with them as nobody asked them questions but rather their authority would be praising them so long they make juicy returns.
“What we heard from the petitioners were mostly chilling tales one could never have thought of; agony and bloody tales of slaughter and disappearance of suspects in police custody.
“A lot of the petitioners lost their parents, brothers, friends, relations, neighbours and sisters to these men in very mysterious circumstances. The panel has investigated the entire 310 petitions and is currently making its findings and reaching conclusions.”
