Senator Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November election in Anambra State, on Friday paid a condolence visit to the family of Mrs. Onyekere, the state women leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), whose son, Ifesinachi Onyekere, was recently kidnapped and killed by gunmen.
Ifesinachi, popularly known as Fish Magnet, was a young entrepreneur and social media influencer celebrated for his pioneering work in catfish farming, processing and marketing.
His abduction and subsequent murder have thrown Okpuno community in Awka South Local Government Area, and indeed the entire state, into mourning.
Senator Ekwunife, who led a team to the family’s residence in Okpuno, signed the condolence register and described the killing as a senseless act of violence that had robbed Anambra of a promising young man.
She urged the bereaved family to seek strength in God in this moment of grief.
In remarks during the visit, Senator Ekwunife, linked the incident to lapses in local security, noting that a vigilant and well-coordinated neighborhood watch might have prevented the tragedy.
She called on security agencies to intensify their efforts to curb rising insecurity across the state and ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
Responding, Mrs. Onyekere expressed appreciation to Senator Ekwunife and her delegation for their visit and words of consolation.
Prayers were also offered for the repose of the soul of Ifesinachi, whose death has become another grim reminder of the state’s worsening security situation.
The visit was made known in a statement by Tony Ezike, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Ekwunife.
