The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday paid homage to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, where they vowed that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would be voted out of power in Anambra State in a matter of days.
Speaking shortly after receiving royal blessings from the monarch, the APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, declared that the party was poised to win the November 8 governorship election and end APGA’s 19-year rule in the state.
“We have only 196 hours for APGA to end its reign in Anambra. In eight days, there will be no governor in Nigeria that will bear the name APGA,” Yilwatda stated.
The APC chairman spoke at the party’s national campaign rally in Onitsha, where he formally presented the party’s flag and symbol—the broom—to the governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife.
Describing the APC as a “messenger of hope,” Yilwatda said the party was ready to “uproot APGA” from Anambra and restore the state’s lost glory as the commercial heartbeat of the South-East.
“Change is possible in Anambra. The roads and schools need to be fixed, and our youths need jobs. Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, the national economy is improving, and Anambra will fare even better under an APC-led government,” he said.
He added: “Anambra is too important in Igboland to leave in the hands of the opposition. We are taking it back in eight days.”
In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, said the state would no longer “walk alone,” stressing that it was time for Anambra to align with the ruling party at the center.
“My message in Anambra today is that you shall not walk alone. An adopted son is not the same as a biological son. Today, we have come to campaign for Ukachukwu and Ekwunife. Ndigbo henceforth shall never walk alone; they will be at the center,” Akpabio said.
He described the APC under President Tinubu as “a mother hen spreading her wings to cover her children across Nigeria,” noting that the establishment of the South-East Development Commission would further empower and rebuild the region.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, commended supporters for their peaceful conduct despite the heavy rainfall during the rally.
“APC is not known for violence. As you go about your campaigns, shun violence, allow INEC to do its job, and ensure a free and fair election. Your votes will count,” Uzodimma assured.
He added, “We are here to protect democracy. We will be better if our democracy is protected.”
Earlier in the day, the APC leadership and campaign team had paid homage to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Achebe, who offered royal blessings to the party’s candidates ahead of the November 8 poll.
