The political atmosphere in Anambra State is heating up ahead of the November 8 governorship election, following a recent exchange between supporters of Senator Uche Ekwunife and those of the incumbent Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, alleged that Senator Ekwunife lacks the moral standing to criticize Governor Soludo.
Obigwe said during the administration of former Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju (1999–2003), Ekwunife played a role in decisions that contributed to prolonged industrial action by teachers, which kept students at home for nearly a year.
He described Soludo as a leader with a “refined leadership style” who is on “a divine mission to rebuild Anambra State,” contrasting him with what he said were the shortcomings of past leaders.
“It is well known that Senator Uche Ekwunife was among those whose actions contributed to the challenges faced by Anambra State between 1999 and 2003.
“Teachers were owed salaries, which led to a strike that lasted for over a year, leaving students at home. This period remains a sad memory in the state’s history.”
Obigwe further argued that Governor Soludo’s administration has brought positive transformation and urged voters to reward him with massive support at the polls.
“Governor Soludo is on a divine mission to rebuild what was destroyed in our state years ago.
“Ndi Anambra are happy with the progress being made under his leadership and will vote massively for him on November 8 as a well-deserved reward for his good work,” Obigwe said.
