APGA crisis: Mainstream Faction Eyes Mass Defection to SDP ahead of LG poll

By Our correspondent

A high-stakes political drama is unfolding in Anambra State, as a significant faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) considers a mass defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

This shocking move is aimed at enabling the group to contest the upcoming September 28 local government elections and other polls in the state.

According to a reliable source within the party, the mainstream APGA faction, led by a prominent figure in the state, has issued instructions to its members to prepare for a possible exit.

Our source chose to remain anonymous, citing the sensitivity of the situation.

This development comes on the heels of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recognition of Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA, contrary to Sly Ezeokenwa’s emergence as chairman at the party’s national convention held in Awka on May 30, 2023.

The leadership tussle has plunged the party into chaos, prompting the mainstream faction to explore alternative political platforms.

As the political landscape in Anambra State continues to shift, one thing is clear: the APGA crisis has reached a boiling point, and the consequences of this power struggle will be far-reaching.

Will the SDP become the new home for disillusioned APGA members, or will the party find a way to reconcile its differences? Only time will tell.
