APGA Anambra Senatorial Primaries: All Eyes On Battleground Districts-Anambra Central And Anambra North

By Uche Nworah, Ph.D

Anambra state has three senatorial districts – Anambra South, Anambra Central and Anambra North.

Presently Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP represents Anambra South, Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife of PDP represents Anambra Central, while Senator Stella Oduah, formally of APC, now of PDP, represents Anambra North.

Anambra has remained an APGA (All Progressives Grand Alliance) state for the past 16 years, having produced successive governors in the state, and also by APGA always producing majority of the House of Assembly members. The party doesn’t fare too well in National Assembly elections in the state.

APGA produced Senator Victor Umeh as the Senator representing Anambra Central only for a brief period in 2018. The party will feel that it should fare better in the coming Senatorial elections in the state.

To achieve this, it has to field formidable candidates in the 2023 elections to battle the incumbents.

As the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) conducts its primaries in the state today, Saturday, 28th May, 2022, all eyes will be on two particular districts mainly, Anambra Central and Anambra North. This is because of the political gladiators slugging it out for the party’s tickets.

Political watchers are predicting lots of surprises as none of the aspirants is conceding any inch to each other. Here are the aspirants;
