The Anambra State Road Traffic Agency (ARTMA) has suspended three of its female officers caught on camera engaging in a physical altercation with a notorious police traffic warden at Aroma Junction, Awka.
The incident, which occurred while the officers were on duty, sparked widespread condemnation on social media after a video of the brawl went viral.
The footage showed the four female traffic wardens throwing punches and causing a gridlock in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the fight was over money allegedly given to them by a motorist.
The incident also attracted a crowd, with some onlookers grabbing naira notes that fell from the pockets of the traffic wardens during the brawl.
In a statement, ARTMA’s Management, led by MD/CEO Engr. Emeka Okonkwo (Konti), expressed regret over the incident, stating that it did not reflect the agency’s standards and values.
The agency announced that a thorough investigation had been conducted, resulting in the immediate suspension of the personnel involved, pending further disciplinary actions.
ARTMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order and ensuring effective road and traffic management in Anambra State, acknowledging the negative impact the incident may have had on public trust.
