Awka South Chairman Vows To Restore The Glory Of Awka As State capital

As it is said that cleanliness is next to godliness, the Awka South TC Chairman has partnered with the MD/CEO Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Ossy Onuko to restore wave of freshness throughout the entire Okpuno and Ifite Unizik communities.
The massive waste evacuation exercise which began yesterday from Okpuno spanned through several other popular communities which includes; Goodwill Junction, Umuodu road, Ifite-Awka Amansea axis, yahoo junction and second market axis amongst other places was aimed at putting an end to the overflowing refuse dumps ravaging the area.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the exercise, the Awka South Council Boss, Hon. ThankGod Anagor stated that the motive behind the massive exercise is to keep Awka clean. He noted that the plan would not only alleviate the immediate crisis of poor waste disposal system and management but also lay the foundation for a cleaner and greener future for the entire Awka South Council Area.
According to him, the goal was not just to clear the waste, but to do so in a way that would prevent such accumulations from reoccurring. He assured every necessary effort and resources will be put in place in order to make Awka Capital City and Anambra State a prosperous, healthy and liveable homeland.
“I am going to build a temporary site to enable residents dispose their waste properly, he said”
“I am also going to meet with the Awka North Chairman to discuss better approach to be engaged to bring a lasting solution to the unfortunate effect of reckless refuse dumping around our neighborhood, he added.”
Hon. Anagor went further to reaffirm commitment to making Awka South the envy of other local government council area and advised residents to be very careful and cautious about how they dispose their refuse waste in their various communities.
Some of the residents of Ifite-Unizik community, Mrs. Chimuanya Okafor, a business owner, and Ms Chiamaka Agu, an Hair stylist who resides along the popular Yahoo junction appreciated the TC Chairman and the ACTDA boss for their prompt intervention and noted that the huge feat will restore sanity to the area.
They lamented that students are the major contributors to the menace and recounted several efforts put in place by single individuals to cushion the effect of the pile of waste along the road that met a discouraging end. They however offer suggestions to help maintain a clean, green and healthy environment.
Lending his voice, one of the Awka South indigene who is also a resident of Ifite-Unizik community, Mazi Chukwuemeka Nnana Egbune commended the MD/CEO of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority and the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Council Area for their magnanimity and efforts in alleviating the burden of the community by ensuring total evacuation of refuse dump and also desilting of drainage systems.
He assured resolve to engage relevant community leaders and stakeholders to continue sensitizing the residents of proper waste disposal practice.
In his remarks, the MD CEO, Anambra Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA) while commending the effects of the collaborative effort of the Awka South Mayor with the MD ACTDA in interventing on the deplorable condition of the Opkuno and Ifite-Awka community reinstated commitment on the part of his agency to partner with sister agency in ensuring a more clean, healthy and livable and prosperous homeland for all.
