By Our Correspondent

Ihiala has drawn the battle line against criminals! In a bold move to restore peace and order, the Ihiala Local Government Council has officially unveiled its own home-grown security outfit – Agunechemba.

The launch, held at the Council Headquarters, saw leaders and community stakeholders declare war on insecurity.

Mayor of Ihiala, Engr. Charles Orjiako, hailed the Anambra State Government for birthing Agunechemba, stressing that the outfit has already made a huge impact in boosting safety across the council. He urged residents to show full cooperation and “sincerity of purpose” to drive the mission forward.

Backing him, the Chairman of Ihiala Agunechemba Management and Finance Committee, Chief Chukwudi Enwerum, explained that the new Homeland Security Law 2025 has repealed the 2014 Vigilante Law, giving Agunechemba the legal teeth to operate as a fully recognized, community-based force.

Community leaders were equally upbeat. The President General of Ihiala Town Union, Mr. Livinus Omatu, alongside stakeholders Mr. Vin Ezeaka and Mr. Tochukwu Okeyika, described the launch as a “turning point” for Ihiala, insisting the outfit will finally give criminals a bloody nose.

Agunechemba – meaning “The Lion that Guards the Community” – is a grassroots security initiative set up by the Anambra State Government to tackle armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other crimes terrorizing local communities. It is made up of trained local operatives, backed by the law, and works hand-in-hand with conventional security agencies.

With Ihiala now officially on board, residents say it’s only a matter of time before criminals get flushed out of the area.
