The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 8 election in Anambra State, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has kicked off his campaign with a firm warning to his coordinators: stay in your political wards and don’t disturb him at his home or in Awka, the state capital.
Ukachukwu emphasized that the focus of his campaign will be strictly at the grassroots level.
“I don’t want anyone coming to my town or to Awka to claim he will deliver his local government,” he declared. “All campaign activities and support will be channeled directly to the wards.”
Speaking at Ayamelum Local Government Area, where he led APC officials at all levels to engage with the local people, Ukachukwu thanked them for their strong support during the party’s primaries.
As part of the visit, he inaugurated campaign teams for each ward and assured that all necessary resources to aid the campaign will be distributed directly to the ward level.
“We expect every ward to register at least 400 people, and starting from July, those registered will begin receiving stipends,” he announced. “But everyone must have a valid voter’s card.”
Recognizing Ayamelum as the food basket of the state, Ukachukwu promised to join locals in farming efforts to boost food production and ensure food sufficiency across Anambra.
“If elected governor, I will provide loans to farmers and ensure Ayamelum benefits significantly. I will also ensure all farms and farmers across the state are protected so Anambra becomes safe and attractive for agriculture.”
He further stressed the importance of integrating Anambra into the national political framework.
“There is a need to bring Anambra to the center, so our people can benefit from what other APC states are enjoying,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the state chairman of APC, Chief Basil Ejidike, said the coming governorship campaign would depart from the usual approach of political grandstanding.
“This time, it will not be about running around. Every member must focus on delivering his polling unit,” he said. “We have suffered enough, and that’s why we must connect Anambra to the center. Ukachukwu and Uche Ekwunife are the ones to lead us to the Government House after the November election.”
