The Anambra State Government has announced that it will begin a statewide enforcement operation targeting all categories of vehicles on public roads from July 1, 2025.

The directive, issued in a press release from the Ministry of Transport, reminds motorists that it is a legal requirement under both federal and state laws to possess valid driver’s licences and up-to-date vehicle documents when operating on public roads.

The enforcement will apply to all vehicle operators, including motorcycles, tricycles, taxi cabs, shuttle and mini-buses, light trucks, tippers, and heavy-duty trucks.

According to the statement signed by Engr. Michael Obiekwe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Road Traffic Officers will be deployed across the state to conduct intensified compliance checks aimed at curbing violations and enhancing road safety.

“With effect from 1st July, 2025, the Ministry’s Road Traffic Officers will be embarking on special and increased compliance monitoring and enforcement on our roads to ensure that all types of vehicles and categories of motorists possess the requisite valid driver’s licence and motor vehicle papers,” the statement read.

Motorists found without valid documentation will be sanctioned in line with the relevant provisions of the Anambra State Road Traffic Laws and Regulations.

The Ministry advised all vehicle owners and drivers to take advantage of the remaining days of June to regularize their papers, warning that defaulters will not be spared once enforcement begins.“

“The public is advised to take this notice seriously and ensure full compliance to avoid penalties,” the statement further stated.
