EDITORIAL: Awka South LGA Chairman: What Happened to Citizen Chukwuemeka Igwuegbe of Okpuno?
News

The gruesome murder of Chukwuemeka Igwuegbe, a 26-year-old son of Gilbert Igwuegbe, on November 22nd, 2024, in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, is a stain on our collective conscience.
Chukwuemeka’s brutal beating by a group of men, allegedly over a land dispute, highlights the dangers of unchecked power.
As the chief security officer, Prince Chinedu Okafor, Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, must provide a detailed explanation for Chukwuemeka’s death.
It is even more disturbing that Chukwuemeka was his kinsman and next-door neighbour.
The post-death allegation of stealing by Prince Okafor is insufficient to justify homicide.
Furthermore, the Okafor family’s alleged offer of N2 million for Chukwuemeka’s burial is a hollow gesture.
We urge Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene and ensure justice is served.
The killing of any Anambra State citizen, anywhere in the world, should perturb the state and its citizenry.
It is the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens and hold accountable those responsible for heinous crimes.
. We will continue to follow this case and demand justice for Chukwuemeka Igwuegbe and his family.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
