EDITORIAL: IGP, Intervene: Call CSP Iburu to Order in Ezinano/Umuzuocha Land Feud

Editorial

The recent allegations of police brutality, harassment, and intimidation in Ezinano, Awka, Anambra State, involving CSP Ifeanyi Iburu, demand urgent attention from the Inspector General of Police.

CSP Iburu’s actions have escalated fears of violence in the already tense dispute between Ezinano Community and Umuzuocha Village.

A lawsuit filed by Tochukwu Nwokoye Nwosu, a prominent businessman, against CSP Iburu for unlawful arrest and detention, seeks N20 million in compensation for violating his fundamental rights.

This case highlights concerns about police brutality and the need for law enforcement agencies to respect citizens’ rights.

Ezinano Community leaders have petitioned the Police Service Commission, accusing CSP Iburu of unlawful activities, including unlawful use of firearms, harassment, threat to life, intimidation, and interfering with land disputes.

The petitioners urge the Commission to investigate and take disciplinary action against CSP Iburu.

Nwokoye has also raised alarm about an alleged plot by CSP Iburu to frame him with a murder case, claiming the officer plans to bury a corpse on disputed land.

The incidents have sparked renewed calls for reform and accountability within the Anambra State Police Command.

The Police Service Commission has restricted officers from delving into civil matters, emphasizing the need for police to respect citizens’ rights and uphold the rule of law.

We urge the Inspector General of Police to investigate CSP Iburu’s actions and take disciplinary action if necessary, prevent further escalation of violence in the dispute, and ensure police respect citizens’ fundamental rights and uphold the rule of law.

The Inspector General of Police must act swiftly to prevent bloodshed and maintain public trust in law enforcement agencies.

The nation’s eyes are on the Inspector General of Police to demonstrate commitment to justice, accountability, and protection of citizens’ rights. We await prompt action.

The allegation that CSP Iburu is backed by a powerful oil mogul deserves thorough investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.

In conclusion, the Inspector General of Police must rise to the challenge and stop this looming danger. The time for action is now.
