BY TONY OKAFOR, AWKA

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has said the August 16 bye-elections tested the November 8 poll hypothesis and proved that Anambra remains the stronghold of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Soludo stated this while addressing the press at the Lighthouse in Awka on Wednesday, as part of activities to mark 34 years of the state’s creation.

He said those who claimed to be the commanders in the state with full capacity were humbled by the outcome of the election that gave APGA an overwhelming victory.

He added that the tactics of those who historically were known for rigging elections in the state have been foiled,
saying if elections were held 1,000 times in the state, APGA would win 1,000 times.

He said those boasting that the November 8 elections would be rigged would face another round of humiliation because the people of the state are vigilant and would not allow their votes to be stolen.

He emphasized that the state has consistently surpassed expectations, exhibiting resilience despite various challenges.

“Anambra has witnessed a trajectory of remarkable progress under the leadership of APGA over the past 19 years”, Soludo said.

He reiterated the importance of a “refined mission” under the current administration, spotlighting the ambitious 50-year development plan called “Anambra Mission 2070,” which aims to transform the state into a livable and prosperous smart megacity—a place where everyone feels at home and a preferred destination, rather than a departure lounge.

While outlining the five major pillars driving the state’s development, with security taking centre stage, Governor Soludo emphasized that insecurity has abated, unlike what was obtainable before he assumed office when political parties could not campaign freely.

The Governor promised to continue prioritizing productive investments over transient consumption, education, health, infrastructure, and other key areas, ensuring the sustainable development of the state.

He called on citizens to work collaboratively, reinforcing that building Anambra is a collective effort.
