The Anambra State Government has approved the release of over ₦95 million for the provision of water supply to the Ekwulobia Flyover Bridge Fountain and its ornamental garden, as part of decisions taken at the 25th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC).

The approval was disclosed in a post-EXCO statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, following the council meeting held at the Lighthouse, Awka, on December 15, 2025.

According to the statement, the council sanctioned the release of ₦95,239,056.80 for the water supply project at the Ekwulobia Flyover.

The contract was awarded to Double NC Construction & Logistics Ltd, with the project aimed at sustaining the flyover’s fountain and enhancing the aesthetic value of the surrounding ornamental garden.

The approval formed part of a broader set of strategic decisions taken by the council, including infrastructure development, environmental management and recovery of government lands across the state.

Dr Mefor said ANSEC once again underscored that erosion remains an existential threat to Anambra State, attributing the worsening situation partly to the disregard of environmental regulations by some individuals and communities.

He noted that the practice of channelling stormwater from private residences onto public roads has significantly contributed to erosion across many parts of the state.

To address the challenge, the council resolved to intensify enforcement of existing environmental laws, compelling residents to properly manage stormwater from their homes.

Communities will also be required to adhere strictly to approved guidelines, including the construction of erosion barriers and limiting sand excavation to designated locations.

On land administration, the council expressed concern over the increasing encroachment on government-owned lands, with reports of illegal developments springing up without authorisation.

In response, ANSEC approved the constitution of a committee to recover government lands in and around the state.

Beyond the Ekwulobia Flyover project, the council also approved funding for several other key projects. These include the release of ₦172,028,797.10 for landscaping the car park of the Trauma Centre at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd.

Another ₦93,416,220.52 was approved for the installation of a three-way traffic light, including pedestrian signals, at the Ifite-Amenyi intersection within Awka metropolis, with the contract awarded to S.N.U. Ventures.

The council further approved ₦50,449,487.93 for the supply and installation of two 10kVA inverters with 15kW lithium batteries at the Anambra State Civil Service Commission building in Awka, awarded to Kennolly Enterprises.

In the power sector, ANSEC sanctioned the release of ₦119,111,045.97 for the supply and installation of transformer substations in Nnewi and Umueze-Anam communities, with the contracts awarded to Aries and Gold Ventures Ltd and Aljovic Construction Ltd respectively.

The state government said the approvals reflect its commitment to infrastructure development, environmental sustainability and the protection of public assets across Anambra State.
