Catholic Reverend Sisters of the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation, Emene, Enugu State, have expressed profound gratitude to the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, for his continued support towards the construction of their College of Nursing Sciences, Emene–Enugu, describing him as “a man every Nigerian should emulate.”
The former Anambra State Governor, who visited the construction site of the College on Friday, presented a cheque of ₦20 million to the management of the institution as additional support for the ongoing project.
It was gathered that Obi had earlier donated ₦100 million—contributed jointly by him and his friends—towards the same project, bringing his total support to ₦120 million.
Commending the Reverend Sisters for their commitment to humanity, Obi urged them to continue their service to mankind whether or not their efforts were recognized.
“You are not expecting any personal benefit from what you are doing here; you are doing it for humanity,” Obi told the Sisters, adding, “Never mind if anyone thanks you or not. Continue your good work because you are contributing to one of the most crucial aspects of humanity, which is health.”
After inspecting one of the massive structures under construction—estimated by the site engineer to cost about ₦350 million to complete—Obi pledged to further assist in ensuring the completion of the building.
In her remarks, the Superior General and Proprietress of the College, Rev. Sister Mary Anastasia Dike, praised Obi’s compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the less privileged.
“This is a man who always wants to impact humanity,” Rev. Sister Dike said. “He may not be the richest man in Nigeria, but he consistently supports projects that uplift the less privileged, especially in the health sector, across Nigeria and even beyond. Nigeria is his project anywhere he goes. He is patriotism personified.”
She recalled that Obi had been part of the project since its inception and had remained steadfast in his support.
“He met us when we started this project from the foundation and has never stopped supporting us,” she added.
The Daughters of Divine Love Sisters reaffirmed their commitment to providing quality training in nursing and healthcare, promising to uphold Obi’s charge to serve humanity selflessly.
