Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, kicked off the new year by welcoming the first baby of 2025 at General Hospital, Nnobi, in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra.
During her goodwill visit, she presented gifts to the baby and other newborns.
The first baby of the year, a boy weighing 2.4 kilograms, was born to Mrs. Elizabeth Nwachukwu from Enugu state at 12:18 a.m. via normal delivery.
Mrs Soludo also visited General Hospital Ekwulobia in Aguata LGA, where she met with Mrs. Chinaza Mmuoghalum, who delivered a baby girl weighing 4 kilograms at 7:16 a.m. through normal delivery.
In an interview with journalists, Mrs Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, expressed her joy at the birth of the new babies, stating that it brings good fortune to their families and society.
She commended the health workers for their tireless efforts and encouraged mothers to adopt a healthy lifestyle and exclusively breastfeed their babies for six months to ensure their health and well-being.
Mrs Soludo also praised the state government’s efforts in enhancing maternal and child health policies, upgrading healthcare facilities, and providing accessible and affordable services.
Speaking , Dr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Health, urged mothers to take advantage of the state government’s free antenatal and delivery care services, as well as immunization programmes.
Mrs. Elizabeth Nwachukwu, the mother of the first baby of the year, expressed her gratitude to the Governor’s Wife for her kind gestures and revealed that she did not incur any expenses for antenatal care and delivery services, thanks to the state government’s initiatives.
