Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has urged Igbo people across the globe to set aside lingering calls for the creation of a separate Biafran nation, asserting that true inclusion in Nigeria’s governance has rendered secession unnecessary.

Umahi made the declaration during an inspection of the ongoing Enugu–Anambra Road mega projects, where he engaged with stakeholders, contractors, and community leaders.

He said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has addressed long-standing grievances of the Southeast not through division, but through deliberate integration and empowerment within the national framework.

“The historical push for Biafran secession stemmed from years of neglect, exclusion, and underrepresentation at the federal level,” Umahi said. “But today, that narrative has shifted dramatically under President Tinubu.”

The Minister explained that the current administration has ensured that the Southeast is fully represented across all sectors of government.

He highlighted his own appointment as Minister of Works, alongside other strategic positions occupied by Igbo professionals, as evidence of a broader commitment to federal balance and inclusion.

“Every sector in Nigeria now carries a visible imprint of Igbo interest,” Umahi said. “Appointments, policy inputs, and infrastructural priorities now reflect true federal equity.”

According to Umahi, life-changing projects are emerging across the Southeast—projects that were previously considered impossible under past administrations.

He noted that these developments have strengthened ties between Southeast leaders, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and the APC-led federal government.

“When a people are fully integrated, respected, and empowered within the structure of the nation, the dream they once chased through agitation is already achieved through cooperation,” he added.

Umahi further emphasized that Biafra was never solely about breaking away from Nigeria, but about recognition and meaningful participation.

“Through inclusion, equity, and concrete development, Ndi-Igbo are no longer spectators in the Nigerian project—they are co-authors of its future. When justice finds a people, agitation loses its voice. When the road is finally built and the home is secured, no one needs to flee the house,” he concluded.

The Minister’s remarks come amid increased federal engagement in the Southeast, with several mega infrastructural projects aimed at accelerating regional development.
