A 23 years old girl by name Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye has faked her own kidnap to collect money from her parents.
THE RAZOR gathered that the fake kidnap plot was in connivance with her boyfriend, a 24 years old boy named Chibuike Ogbu.
Both suspects were arrested on Friday by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command, and a total of N1.2million recovered from them, being proceeds of ransom paid to them by parents of the girl.
This was disclosed in a press release by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
Though the location of arrest and crime of the crime and the origin of the victims were not made available, Ikenga said the suspects first slugged Mmesoma’s parents for N15million ransom, but later collected N3million, which was transfered to their account.
The release stated that: “The suspects identified as Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye, female, aged 23 years, and Chibuike Ogbu, male, aged 24 years, were arrested after intelligence-led operations uncovered that the supposed victim conspired with Chibuike (her boyfriend) to stage her own abduction.
“The operatives also recovered the sum of ₦1,200,000 (One Million Two Hundred Thousand Naira), being part of the ransom earlier paid by the girl’s family members.
“Further information reveals that the suspects demanded ₦15,000,000 (Fifteen Million Naira) ransom, and after negotiation, three million naira (₦3,000,000) was transferred into the victim’s account.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Ikioye Orutugu was quoted in the press release as attributing such criminality to rising moral decay in the society, where young people are increasingly resorting to criminality for selfish gains.
He urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to intensify efforts in inculcating discipline, integrity, and sound values in their children and wards.
