Osita Chidoka, a former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for the resolution of all election petitions before the swearing-in of elected officials.
He stated this during an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television.
Chidoka emphasized that this move would strengthen and improve Nigeria’s electoral process.
He also advocated for the scanning of ballot papers and the appointment of election auditors to scan election results.
The former minister noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has the power to review results within seven days, a mechanism he believes has not been utilized effectively.
He urged INEC to review results, cancel inappropriate ones, and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Chidoka recommended the establishment of Election Offences Tribunals, as suggested in the Justice Uwais report, to address electoral malpractices.
His comments come amid ongoing debates about Nigeria’s electoral process and the need for reforms to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.
