The Mayor of Idemili North LGA in Anambra state, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, has re-christened a portion of the old Enugu-Onitsha road, which stretches from Nkpor road intersection to St. Borromeo’s road axis, after Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

The road re-naming ceremony, which took place at the ever busy and popular Nkpor road intersection on March 18, 2026, was witnessed by a motley crowd of APGA faithful, Obosi indigenes, and other people.

Nkwoka, who performed the road re-naming ceremony, described Chief Emeka Anyaoku as a forthright man of probity, who should be emulated for his lofty attainments in international relations and possession of well-rounded education.

“The first person I honoured since I assumed office is Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

“I started with him because his fame stretches back to my growing up years, and even beyond.

“And I would like us to know that he had been honoured in other places like Abuja and Lagos.

“So I honoured him because charity should start at home; and because he is worth emulating,” Nkwoka said.

More so, Chief Ikenna . A. Ogbogu (Obi Oba Obosi), who represented the traditional ruler of Obosi kingdom, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), thanked Mayor Nkwoka for honouring a great son of Obosi kingdom, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

“I thank Mayor Nkwoka for re-naming this road after Chief Anyaoku. I thank Gov. Soludo, too,” he said.

In his own comments, the President General of the Obosi Development Union (ODU) , Barr. Chimezie Obi, said that re-christening Limca road after Anyaoku was a fitting tribute to Anyaoku’s legacy.

“Today, we have gathered to honour this great son of Idemili by naming this road after him. This is a fitting tribute to his legacy, and we celebrate his life, achievements, and contributions to our communities and the world.

“As we embark on this journey of honouring Ichie Emeka Anyaoku, we inspire future generations to emulate his values, work ethic, and commitment to excellence,” he said.

During the epochal event, an APGA big gun and musician, Tony Oneweek Muonagor, who was the the master of ceremonies at the event, moderated proceedings.

The event was attended by such public figures as Chief Osita Chidoka, former aviation minister; Hon. Peter Anikpe, leader of the Idemili North legislative council; Hon. Obichukwu Anyafulu, the councillor of Obosi ward; lady Phina Onwuachu, APGA chieftain; members of the Igwe Chidubem Iweka’s ruling cabinet; and others.
