Idemili South LGA female team wins Mrs Soludo’s 2025 volleyball tournament

The female volleyball team of Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State has won the 2nd edition of Nonye Soludo Volleyball competition.

The grand finale of the competition which held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka was between Idemili South and Njikoka Local Government Areas, and witnessed stiff competition which thrilled members of the audience, including roo government functionaries.

The competition was also witnessed by the the host, who is the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, who explained that the tournament was aimed at discovering budding talents in the Volleyball industry.

Mrs Soludo who handed down cash prizes to the winners and runners up commended both the coordinators, Players and Officials for an impressive exercise, stating that the state will continue to encourage and identify raw talents from the grassroots.

The winning team from Idemili South were after the competition presented with a trophy, medals for its players and a cash award of N750,000. The first runners up from Njikoka got N500,000, while the second runners up, Anaocha team got N250,000 prize money.

The Chairman Anambra state Sports Commission, Patrick Onyedum and the Mayor of Idemili South local government area, Mrs Amaka Obi who spoke through Valentine Mbadugha extolled the resilience spirit of the players noting that the winning female team was as a result of constant training as well as the impact of the Anambra State Sports Development Initiative, ANSSI, a brain child of the Governor towards enhancing the Sports sector.

Head Coach of Anambra State Volleyball team and coordinator of the Nonye Soludo Volleyball competition, Uche Okafor said a total of 36 matches were played in the games that saw four teams from 4 zones making into the the semi finals.
