Dangote Group, Africa’s leading indigenous conglomerate, has appointed Dr. Hassan Mahmud, a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation – IGET, as its Chief Economist.
Reacting to this development, the Founder and President of the IGET, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has described Dr. Mahmud’s appointment as pleasing and meritorious. According to Professor Moghalu, “I am pleased to see Dr. Mahmud appointed to this new role in addition to his role at the IGET. It’s a further confirmation of his high level of competence and professionalism that I had recognized going back to our time at the Central Bank, when he was a senior aide to Governor Lamido Sanusi.”
Dr. Hassan Mahmud’s contributions at the IGET, where he serves as a Senior Fellow, help in strengthening the IGET’s policy research agenda. He is joining the Dangote Group with decades of relevant experience in policy, finance, and macroeconomics.
In a separate reaction, the Managing Director of the IGET, Evelyn Dan Epelle, in a statement, described Dr. Mahmud’s appointment as timely and suitable. Speaking on Dr. Mahmud’s contributions at the IGET, Ms. Epelle reaffirmed that his input at IGET “strengthens our commitment to bridging policy, markets and development outcomes, ensuring that rigorous economic thinking informs both public policy discourse and private-sector transformation.”
The IGET then wishes Dr. Mahmud success in his new role at the Dangote Group.
