Imoka Festival: Awka Women pay homage to deity For Prosperity in 2025

Women traditionalists in Awka community have gathered to pay homage to the Imoka deity as part of the 2025 Imoka festival.

The ceremony, known as “Opu Eke Imoka,” is a significant event where women thank Imoka for the past year and pray for good health, peace, and blessings in the coming year.

According to Adaeze Nwaezi, a female traditionalist from Umueri-Awka, the Opu-Eke day is an opportunity for her to commune with her ancestors and receive blessings from her “Chi.”

The event was observed to take place at Olulu Imoka in Umuayom village, Awka.

Meanwhile, the menfolk were seen celebrating separately at Obu Mmadi Adichie, where they engaged in merriment.

Chief Priest, Mr. Kenechukwu Nwaezeofordili, explained that Imoka is a revered female deity and emphasized the importance of keeping the Obu clean and well-dressed during the festivities.

The celebrations involve the slaughtering of goats and fowls, as well as traditional drinking.

The Imoka festival is a significant cultural event in Awka community, showcasing the rich traditions and heritage of the people.
