Amidst rising security concerns in Anambra State, the Anambra Security Network (ASN) has called on the state government and wealthy individuals to enhance the welfare of Anambra Vigilant Group (AVG) operatives.

In a statement signed by Col. Jude Obi (Rtd), ASN’s President, the group expressed concern over the meager salary of N100,000 paid to AVG operatives, considering the economic hardship and risks associated with their job.

ASN advocated for a salary increase to N200,000 to N300,000 or more, citing the need to motivate them to continue their efforts in containing high-profile crimes.

The group also urged the government to provide new operational vehicles, arms, and ammunition, as well as insurance coverage and retraining for the operatives.

The statement warned that if the government fails to review the operatives’ salary by October 2024, they will embark on protests to draw attention to their economic plight.

Additionally, ASN advised the governor to create new security sectors to checkmate the resurgence of criminal activities and allocate a portion of the security vote to address ongoing security challenges.

The group commended AVG operatives for their efforts in containing crime and recovering arms and ammunition, but emphasized the need for better incentives to encourage them to continue their work.
