ANCISRO urges Anambra people, S’East to register at Ongoing Voter Registration

Politics

The Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) has urged Ndi Anambra and citizens across the South-East to take full advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The call follows INEC’s report that Anambra registered 168,187 new voters in just two weeks—the highest number recorded in any comparable period since 2017.

INEC said Women accounted for 58 per cent of the new registrants, while young people aged 18–34 made up more than half, reflecting a surge of civic engagement.

By contrast, other South-East states showed disappointingly low participation, particularly in the online pre-registration phase.

INEC data reveals that out of 64,696 registrations recorded across the entire zone, Anambra accounted for 62,698, leaving Abia (772), Enugu (484), Imo (481) and Ebonyi (261) with some of the lowest figures nationwide.

Analysts have linked this under-performance to voter apathy, mistrust in the electoral process, and logistical challenges in rural areas.

Meanwhile, Anambra’s strong performance has been credited to ANCISRO’s sustained civic education and mobilisation.

Through initiatives such as “My Vote, My Duty”, town halls, school outreach, youth forums and parish sensitisation, the office engaged traders, students, market women and other active groups that went on to dominate the registration numbers.

Speaking on the development, ANCISRO Managing Director, Chuka I. Nnabuife, said: “This record registration demonstrates what is possible when citizens are encouraged and supported to see voter registration as both a right and a duty. We urge Ndi Anambra and indeed all our brothers and sisters across the South-East to take advantage of the ongoing INEC online voter registration exercise. The strength of our democracy depends on active participation.”

The establishment of ANCISRO under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has given Anambra a unique institutional advantage. Unlike neighbouring states, where voter mobilisation often lacks coordination, Anambra has benefitted from a deliberate, policy-driven approach to civic reformation that ensured voter registration was treated as a collective responsibility.

As Anambra prepares for the 8 November 2025 governorship election, ANCISRO reaffirmed its commitment to deepening democratic participation, strengthening public trust, and ensuring that every eligible citizen recognises the importance of registering, collecting their Permanent Voter Cards, and turning out to vote.
