Kidnapping Epidemic hits Anambra: Abductors’ Prado Jeep with Shattered Glass exposed

Anambra State has become a hotbed of kidnapping activities, with the nefarious acts spreading to the commercial hub of Onitsha.
In the past two weeks, kidnappers have targeted government officials, priests, traditional rulers, and businessmen, leaving a trail of fear and uncertainty.
Recent victims include a lawyer and two others abducted at Mkpologwu in the Aguata Local Government Area. No contact has been established with their abductors.
Another victim, a man on his way to his daughter’s wedding, was kidnapped in Ihiala and released after a ransom was paid.
A top federal government worker and his driver were also kidnapped and are yet to be released despite a ransom being paid.
Other victims include the son of a prominent traditional ruler, kidnapped at Modebe, and the son of a businessman in Onitsha, who was released after a ransom was paid.
Four people were kidnapped in Creek Road, Fegge Onitsha, including a man and his pregnant wife, who was released after a ransom was paid.
The kidnappers operate with impunity, using SUV Prado Jeeps with broken glass.
Our investigation reveals that Anambra and Imo States have become safe havens for these criminals, with 19 camps identified in the South East States. Anambra alone has 10 camps, includingTango 1 and 2 in Ihiala, Mother Valley in Nnewi, Nnewi camp, Burrow Pit Camp, Orsumogho , Ogbunka Camp Orumba South.
Others camps are: Ogwuaniocha/Osomala in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Uli/Lilu, Mbosi, Ihiala Local Government, Nkwelle Ezunaka,Oyi Local Government, Orsumogho –Ihitenansa through Ukpor camp, and Ihiala camp.
The kidnapping epidemic has sent shockwaves through the state, with many residents living in fear of being the next victim.
The authorities have been criticized for their slow response to the crisis, with many calling for increased security measures.
The South East Security Forum has called for urgent action to address the kidnapping epidemic, saying: “The situation is getting out of hand. We need the authorities to take decisive action to bring these criminals to justice and restore peace to our communities.”
The people of Anambra State demand justice and security. Will the authorities heed the call? Only time will tell.
