There was wide jubilation in Anambra state, particularly in Awka when Justice Ike Ogu of the the Awka High Court, granted bail to Ozo Jeff Nweke, a renowned philanthropist and security expert, in a kidnapping case involving one realtor, Benjamin Ezenma popularly known as BigBen.

Also granted bail are Tochukwu Nwokoye and David Chukwuemeka Chukwunonso who are equally defendants in the matter.

The court’s decision sparked widespread jubilation in the court premises and other parts of Awka, the state capital.

Nweke, known for his philanthropic efforts, has awarded scholarships to numerous indigent students and has endowed funds to combat insecurity in Awka and its environs, making the allegations against him unbelievable.

His efforts were particularly notable when hoodlums attacked and killed 16 fun catchers in Nibo community festival near Awka.

After hearing arguments from Nweke’s lawyer, Alex Ajesieme, SAN, Justice Ogu ruled in favour of granting bail to Nweke.

The decision was met with excitement and relief from Nweke’s supporters, who had gathered in large numbers outside the court premises.

The case against Nweke and two other accused persons, Tochukwu Nwokoye and David Chukwuemeka Chukwunonso, has been ongoing since February 20, 2025 .

The trio was charged with kidnapping BigBen, a realtor.

However, emerging evidence suggests that BigBen was actually kidnapped from a hotel, contradicting earlier claims .

The bail grant has been seen as a significant development in the case, with many hailing it as a victory for justice.

As the case continues, many will be watching with bated breath to see how events unfold.
