Kidnapping persists, four kidnapped on Friday night at Umueri

Security

Despite the huge successes registered so far by Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, through the launch of Operation Udo Ga Achi, and a security outfit, Agunechemba, Kidnappers seems to have returned to the state.

Though several suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the security outfit, and many native doctors who prepare charms for them have also been arrested, while many have fled, kidnap activities have not subsided.

The latest kidnap happened on Friday night, along Nsugbe – Nneyi Umuleri Anambra State around 9pm.

In the incident, a man named Dona Ayakalor was abducted alongside his friends, about three in number and taken into their camp, where the gang is asking for ransom, before they can be freed.

A video of the incident which surfaced on social media showed a period where the kidnappers shot one of the victims foot, breaking his ankle, maybe as a means to show their seriousness and compel their relatives to pay ransom.

The victims who was seen in the video wailing and almost hugging another victim in pain, while the other victim was pictured in the video making a frantic phone call and begging a suspected relative to mobilize funds for his release.

What is even more intriguing was that the incident happened in Anambra North senatorial zone, an area that has despite the festering incidences of unknown gunmen been known to be relatively quiet.

When our reporter reached out to the police spokesperson for the state command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for reaction, he was not available online

As at the time of filing this report, he was yet to get back with reaction on the incident.

The new commissioner of police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu has recently celebrated one month of zero kidnap in the state, but this incident seems to have put a dent to the record.
