~ Reaffirms Commitment to Indigent Students in Anambra State
The League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) has disbursed the sum of ₦400,000 each as the first tranche of the LAP Future Forward Scholarship to the 36 beneficiaries selected across the three senatorial zones of Anambra State.
The payment, made in January 2026, marks the transition of the initiative from promise to performance, following the formal unveiling of the scholarship on December 5, 2025, during an educational programme organised by LAP in Awka.
The Future Forward Scholarship Initiative was conceived to support indigent but academically outstanding students, ensuring that financial hardship does not stand in the way of educational excellence. The programme is structured to provide ₦1,000,000 per student per academic year, covering tuition, accommodation, and a monthly living stipend.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in December, the President of LAP, Sir Nnamdi Obi, through his deputy and Chair of the LAP Education Committee, Dr. Elizabeth Ifeyinwa Jibunoh, described the scholarship as a direct response to a fundamental question posed by the LAP President, Sir Nnamdi Obi:
“Is there no way LAP can create a support structure for indigent students in Anambra State?”
That question, she noted, became the driving force behind what has now evolved into a life-changing intervention for dozens of Anambra youths.
Out of over 300 qualified applications, LAP selected 12 students from each senatorial zone, bringing the total number of scholars for the 2025/2026 academic session to 36. The League has indicated that the number will increase as funding capacity expands.
In line with its commitment to transparency and financial responsibility, LAP partnered with Fidelity Bank as its anchor bank. All beneficiaries have opened dedicated accounts through which stipends and subsequent disbursements will be managed, with an added focus on financial literacy and responsible money management.
Beyond financial support, LAP disclosed that the scholarship includes a Mentorship and Mind-Shift Programme, designed to equip beneficiaries with life skills, leadership exposure, internships, and access to reputable professionals across sectors. The goal, according to the League, is to raise globally competitive graduates who remain grounded in Anambra’s values of excellence and enterprise.
Reacting to the January disbursement, LAP President reaffirmed that the initiative is a long-term investment in the intellectual and socio-economic future of Anambra State.
“The Future Forward Scholars are not just beneficiaries; they are ambassadors of a renewed commitment to education, dignity, and opportunity,” the League stated.
LAP has called on corporate bodies, institutions, and well-meaning Ndi Anambra at home and in the diaspora to partner with the League in scaling the initiative and expanding its reach in subsequent academic years.
The League of Anambra Professionals is a non-partisan body of accomplished Anambra indigenes committed to good governance, social development, and capacity building across the state.
