Man raises alarm over adjusted metre at Awka filling station, IPMAN sets up taskforce

News

A man who bought fuel in a one liter plastic can at a filling station in Awka, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway has raised the alarm over heavy adjustment of the metre.

The man said he was able to detect this after buying in a can said the level of adjustment was so high that only half of the product paid for was dispensed.

In a video which the man made, he called for justice saying that it was unfair to pay for a product and only get half of its worth. The man was however ignored by the petrol attendant.

Meanwhile, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Enugu Depot has expressed worry over continued reports of meter adjustments by some filling station operators in the zone.

To this end the leadership of IPMAN has constituted a task force Committee that will work towards putting an end to such unwholesome practice.

Chairman of IPMAN Enugu depot, Comrade Chinedu Anyaso stated this while speaking with our Correspondent on the reactions of petrol customers over the sharp practices by some operators.

According to him, IPMAN as a body is totally against short changing of the public or adjustment of meter by its members.

This he said was extensively discussed during their August General meeting where they emphatically stated that a task force will be constituted to put an end to the issue.

Comrade Anyaso said the new taskforce which will begin operations from the first week of November 2025 both in Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states will ensure that filling station operators comply with the normal standard.

He said this is to make sure that whatever quantity of litre customers pay for is what they will get.

“Nobody short changes anybody. We are totally against it, it is evil, it is not good so that is the stand of IPMAN as a body.”

Mr Anyaso said the taskforce committee are trusted members and men of impeccable integrity who will operate with the media and security agents to achieve the desired result.

“So we don’t have any fear of the taskforce conniving with those short changing the public, they are men of integrity. We want to sanitize our House, we want to make sure that people conform to standards so that whatever one buys is what he gets.”

The IPMAN Enugu Depot Chairman while observing that petrol is what people use everyday, said it was totally wrong for any operator to cheat the public in anyway or form.

He said if any of the members are caught involved in such practice, the report should be made to reach IPMAN leadership so that proper investigation and sanctions will be carried out including refunding the customers their money where necessary.

Comrade Anyaso said in addition, complaints could also be sent to the Nigeria Mainstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, or Weight and Measure office which are all authorities saddled with the responsibility of making sure that marketers conform to standards.

The RAZOR reports that the reaction followed a trending video where a customer who bought one liter of fuel from a filling station was seen complaining that the meter was not accurate leading to reactions from some members of the public on their experiences over such sharp practices.
