The ongoing crisis at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) over the selection of a new Vice Chancellor has caught the attention of the Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Tanko Summunu.
In a recent meeting with the university’s Governing Council, led by Pro Chancellor and Chairman Ambassador Greg O. Mbadiwe, the Minister appealed for peace and progress.
Summunu emphasized the need for the Council to work closely with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) to resolve the conflict.
He stressed that stability and peace are essential for the university’s rapid development.
Speaking, Mbadiwe assured the Minister that the Council would do everything possible to maintain peace within the university and resolve all grievances amicably.
He assured that all grievances will be amicably resolved in the interest of the great University named after the great ‘ZIK of Africa’ Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.
The meeting which was at the instance of the Honorable Minister ended cordially after several other discussions that centred on the welfare of staff of the university and other developmental challenges currently facing Higher Education in Nigeria.
The meeting concluded on a cordial note, with discussions also focusing on staff welfare and the developmental challenges facing higher education in Nigeria.
