A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, and his wife, Maryanne, narrowly escaped death as they were stuck in a faulty elevator.

They were reportedly in the faulty for over 30 minutes before help came there way.

In a video Maryanne posted, without revealing the location she wrote; “This morning, @MoghaluKingsley and I were stuck in an elevator for over 30 minutes! The elevator stopped in between floors. I thank God it ended well.

“This is why you don’t leave home without praying. Ps 91. Never know what is waiting around the corner. Glory to God!”

Moghalu was appointed deputy CBN governor by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua from 2009 to 2014

Moghalu is the founder of Sogato Strategies LLC, a global investment advisory firm, and the president of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET), a public policy think tank.

He is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Council on Emerging Market Enterprises at the Fletcher School at Tufts University and is the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Special Envoy on Post-Covid Development Finance for Africa.

Kingsley, a Nigerian political economist, was a former presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the 2019 elections.

Recently, a female doctor, Vwaere Diaso, was not lucky as an elevator carrying her crashed from the 10th floor to the ground floor of Lagos Island General Hospital where she worked as a medical house officer.

Dr. Diaso died from injuries sustained after she was trapped for more than 40 minutes in the crashed elevator.

She died on August 1, 2023, a few weeks prior to the completion of her horsemanship.
