
The Kabiyesi of Yoruba in Onitsha, Alhaji Abraham Zubairu, who is also the Chairman, Anambra State Moslem Council has advised the moslem community in the state to re-elect the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
Zubairu stated this in Onitsha, on Monday, while addressing some members of the moslem community at the Eid praying ground, as part of activities for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
He stated that the Moslem community since the emergence of Soludo as the governor of Anambra State, has witnessed many qualities of a dynamic leader, which one of them is “peaceful co-existence” between them and the indigent community as well as the government.
He said, “There have been massive road constructions and other infrastructural developments in the state since Prof. Chukwuma Soludo took over as governor, therefore the Moslem community would re-elect the governor to continue his good works in the state, I pray for Anambra State.
“We use the opportunity of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to pray that God would protect the governor and continue to give him more wisdom as he pilots the affairs of the state. We also pray for Ndi Anambra for continue prosperity and peaceful coexistence in the state.
“For all Moslem faithful, we thank God for being alive to witness this year’s sallah, we pray that this celebration will not be the end. We shall have cause to continue to celebrate.”
Earlier, the Chief Imam of Yoruba Central Mosque Onitsha, Alhaji Shuaibu Eletu, while speaking after the prayer to mark the end of the Ramadan fast at Ziks Avenue Primary School, Onitsha South Local Government Area, stated that “The essence of the prayer as we all know, that a month now we started fasting and we come here to give thanks to Almighty Allah.
“Islam means peace and anybody practicing Islam is a Moslem and Moslem means somebody that is practicing peace, all the Moslem that believe in God, believe in the prophet as the messenger supposed to maintain peace with their neighbour, irrespective of religion, live in harmony with each other, that is compulsory to all the Moslems.
“Any Moslem that is making violent in any part of the country and confidently showing he is a Moslem is just tagging that name as moslem.”
On the relationship between the Moslem Community with the State government, the Imam described Soludo as a God sent to Anambra people, adding that they have been existing for a long time in the state and have never experienced a leader like Soludo.
“Soludo mounted street lights, built roads in impossible and abandoned locations, he cleared drainages to allow free flow of water, demolished buildings built on drainages and waterways, that is an achievement.
“We are happy over the cordial and harmonious relationship that has existed between the state government and the Moslem community in the state. Since we have been living in this state, our leaders have never entered the Government House, but Soludo always invite all the Moslems from different parts of the state in Nnewi zone, Awka zone and Onitsha zone to the government house during sallah and gave them a warm reception,” he added.
After the prayers, the Imam advised the people to come closer to God and seek His face so that they would not go back to their sins, urging them to abstain from sin and love one another as they love themselves.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Yoruba Community in Onitsha, Alhaji Maloof Abiodun describing the host community, Anambra, as a peace loving state, adding, “We are like brothers and sisters, they are very accommodating people.
“I have been in Onitsha for 32 years and I am a landlord, if they are not accommodating, there is no way I would build house here, all my children were born and bred here, I really enjoy staying with them.”
Contributing, the Balogun Adini of Onitsha, Alhaji Muhammadu Muritala Jagumoju, who stated that he came to Onitsha in 1972, thanked God for a successful completion of the Ramadan and prayed that Allah would continue to guide and protect them.
“I came from Ogbaru Local Government Area to worship with my Moslem members here. The security has greatly improved in the state and we thanked Governor Soludo for the security we are witnessing now in Ogbaru, we advised him to continue the good work, as we now move freely,” he added.
The Hausa Community in Onitsha also had their prayers at Godwin Achebe Stadium, Onitsha South Local Government to also mark the end of the Ramadan fast.
