Chief Peter Nwaedozie, a Business man, Estate Developer, and an illustrious son of Anambra angling to lead the State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC , on Thursday declared that he was desirous to effect positive changes in the state chapter of the party and reposition it as a winner for the benefit of the state and it’s citizenry.
The state chapter of APC currently led by Chief Basil Ejidike will from February 18,2026, begin the process of replacing it’s State Executive Committee (SEC) through congresses in the state’s 326 electoral wards, 21 local government areas ,climaxing in the election of the state Chairman on March 9.
Chief Nwaedozie, better known as “Nkpume Orumba” by his admirers is currently the only aspirant who has shown genuine interest to take over from Ejidike as the state party chairman.
In an enlarged meeting of the party stakeholders, and executives from the wards and local government areas of the state in Awka which he convened at the Senator Uche Ekwunife Centre on Thursday, he minced no words in explaining his mission to a crowd of party enthusiasts who had gathered to listen to him.
” Why I want to lead Anambra State chapter of APC is because we need change. Our state chapter of the party has been in comatose such that we can neither win a councillorship nor state Assembly seat.
“It is not that we don’t have capable people with pedigree to win elections here.
But it appears that we have been lackadaisical in our political approach to the electoral process and have promoted Imposition and mediocrity over merit and the will of the people.
” Because of all these, there has been this yearning for change and people are asking who will bail the cat. Who will help us reposition our darling party, lead us to the promised land of Nigerian politics and make it a winner .
” Now, I tell you I am here, send me. I have come to reposition the state chapter of AP C and ensure that things are done rightly” , he said.
Chief Nwaedozie told the party stakeholders that he had come to present himself to them as a chairmanship aspirant and that in the event of his election as the state party chairman would turn the party around in earnest.
Within his first one year in the saddle he said he would ensure that the state chapter gets its own functional office and end the cycle of renting office spaces for its operations.
He prayed that God will use them to help him realize his dream so that things will change for the better, even as he pledged to carry every member of the party along.
He said his administration if elected will ensure that the will of the people at the grassroots will prevail, the era of writing results and or imposition of leaders from the wards to the state level will cease.
“On my watch as APC state chairman, consider imposition as a thing of the past. The whole thing will start with the APC congresses from February 18,.
“Let’s go to work. It is time to sow seed and we shall reap the fruits of our labour. After March 9, and I emerge victorious I will summon you people again to put heads together on the way forward because I believe in democracy and will not run a one man show.
“The Exco I will lead must assure accountability and transparency in its conduct of party affairs. Just send me”, he beckoned.
“He said that he hadn’t come to joke but had come with all every sense of responsibility with his eyes focused on the repositioning of the state chapter and make it a beater of all times.
Earlier, Chief Nestor Okoro, an elder of the party in the state and Coordinator of “Chief Peter Nwaedozie For State Chairman,APC, Anambra State “, had told the crowd of party faithful gathered that they had come to chart a new pathway for Anambra APC and to familiarize themselves with the man who will effect the desired change in the party.
He said Chief Nwaedozie will give the party a new lease of life and drive that change that will breed a new APC in Anambra to the envy of other parties.
“We need change. It’s only when we reposition, be able to win elections and acquire political power that we can change ourselves, our environment, community, state and country.
“”Let Nwaedozie be our collective decision. We know how Anambra politics is played and we have dotted our i’s crossed our t’s. We are ready”, he said.
He reminded them that wards and local government congresses will begin in February and culminate in the election of the state chairman of the chapter in March and emphasized the need for them for them to mobilize the grassroots to ensure full participation in the party’s e- registration.
He expressed the hope that with their co-operation and support, they shall get to the bridge and cross it on March 9 and as equals stakeholders in the party chart a new direction for the party.
“Nwaedozie as the chairman is poised to return power to the grassroots beginning with the congresses of February 18, which will be conducted through option A4.
“Elections will start from the wards and the decision of the people must be respected.
“The era of imposition and writing of results is because we found that this had in the past bred dis affection and anti party activities among members because their decisions and choices were not taken into account. The new Exco would be a reflection of the people’s will”, he said.
Chief Obi Onwuachu, a member of the Elders Council of the party in the state described Chief Nwaedozie as a grassroots man with sound political pedigree and urged party members to go home and work for his success on March 9.
Hon. Theo Nnorom, a two time member of Anambra State House of Assembly who also spoke on the occasion reminded them that the congresses from the wards to the national level are very important.
“This is a very important exercise. It is even more important that we have a very functional Exco at the ward level. I have seen in the past a ward chairman who could neither read nor write and send text messages.
” In the last senatorial by- election we had last year,it was the experience we had. It was embarrassing. So, this is the opportunity for us to re- organize the party from the grassroots”, he said.
He thanked Chief Nwaedozie for his steadfastness noting that it was the first time in the. history of the state APC that a chairmanship aspirant would convene a meeting of stakeholders and supporters to talk about his ambition and vision for the party.
“It shows a mark of respect and appreciation. We shall vote for him”, he said.
