In a bid to restore peace and order in Nimo Town, the Caretaker Chairman of the Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU), Hon. Nduka Aguofia, OJIDEMBUBA, has warned against any act of brigandage in the community.

This warning comes on the heels of a recent court judgment that nullified the NTDU Government led by Engr Dan Anakpe, declaring it “null and void and of no effect whatsoever”.

According to Aguofia, the court judgment has led to a takeover of the NTDU Administration by an 8-man Caretaker Committee, as directed by the court and in line with the provision of the NTDU constitution.

The Royal Stool of Nimo has also called for the suspension of Nimo Town Union activities until further notice, to enable peace and tranquility in the town throughout the festive period and beyond.

Aguofia emphasized the importance of obeying the court judgment and resisting confrontational actions.

He noted that the intention to appeal a judgment does not translate to having appealed a judgment, and urged the people of Nimo to always seek the truth as they pursue lasting peace in the town.

“The recent court judgment has brought to an end the leadership crisis that has been rocking the NTDU.

“We urge all parties involved to respect the judgment and work towards a peaceful resolution. We will not tolerate any act of brigandage or violence in Nimo Town, and we will do everything in our power to maintain law and order,” Aguofia stated.

The court judgment, which was instituted by DR VALENTINE OLIOBI, EMMANUEL OBIWELUOZOR, and IFEANYI AJAGU as plaintiffs, appointed an 8-man Caretaker Committee to take charge of the affairs of the NTDU, pending the conduct of new elections.

The court also restrained the former leaders of the NTDU from parading themselves as officers of the union.

The Caretaker Committee, which is headed by Aguofia, has been tasked with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the NTDU until a new leadership is elected.

Aguofia has promised to work tirelessly to ensure that the union is run in a transparent and accountable manner, and that the interests of all members are protected.

In a message to the people of Nimo, Aguofia urged everyone to remain calm and wished them a merry-filled Christmas and a prosperous new year.

He cautioned against placing the NTDU Office under “lock and key” or further occupation, which he described as an act of brigandage.

“Let us work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Nimo Town,” Aguofia said, adding “We must respect the rule of law and work towards a common goal. I urge everyone to cooperate with the Caretaker Committee and to support our efforts to move the union forward.”

The NTDU leadership crisis has been a major concern for the people of Nimo, and the court judgment has brought a sense of relief to the community.
