Nkwo Agulu to become International Market

The Agulu community in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State has unveiled plans to upgrade Nkwo Agulu market to international market in the area.

This decision was reached at an emergency national executive meeting of the Agulu People’s Union (APU) held on June 22, 2024.

Presided over by the union’s President General, Chief Oliver Afamefuna, the meeting focused primarily on the market project.

A committee established to oversee the project presented its report, which was chaired by Sir Emma Ibeneme.

The secretary of the committee, Hon. Dr. Sylvester Okeke Esquire, read the report, which revealed that landowners had agreed to allow the development of the market .

It is expected that the international market would provide a modern and conducive trading environment for businessmen and women in the area.

The market will also feature amenities such as parking spaces, security posts, and convenience facilities.

The project is expected to boost economic activities in the area and beyond, create employment opportunities, and enhance the community’s commercial status.

The market will also serve as a hub for the sale of agricultural produce, handicrafts, and other locally made products.

The committee’s report was adopted as a working document, and the meeting commended the committee for its efforts.

The union also gave a mandate for further action on the project, including securing necessary approvals and mobilizing resources for its implementation.

Chief Afamefuna expressed optimism about the project’s potential to transform the community’s economy.

The meeting also discussed other community development projects, including the building of Command Secondary School Agulu, and progress of Agulu Vocational Academy, which
villages were urged to sponsor their people to study and acquire skills at the Academy so that at the end they would be self employed.
