The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the total and permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across the South‑East, saying the directive was issued by its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from custody.

The announcement was contained in a statement released on Sunday by Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Spokesperson and Media/Publicity Secretary, who said the order takes effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.

According to the statement, Kanu directed that all markets, schools, offices, transport services and other economic activities should resume fully every Monday, stressing that there is “no longer any reason or justification” for residents to stay indoors on that day.

IPOB said the decision was taken to ensure that children return to school and that residents conduct their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation.

The group maintained that the order was “clear and unequivocal,” adding that anyone enforcing sit‑at‑home henceforth would be acting contrary to Kanu’s instruction.

The group further alleged that attempts may be made by “enemies” to stage attacks or intimidate residents in order to sustain the sit‑at‑home, urging the public to remain calm, vigilant and law‑abiding.

IPOB also warned state governments against what it described as intimidation of traders, including demolition threats or forced market closures, noting that any market renovations or relocations should only be carried out with the consent of stakeholders and with alternative trading sites provided.

IPOB called on residents across the South‑East to open their shops, go to work and send their children to school from Monday, reiterating that the era of the Monday sit‑at‑home had ended.
