About 1000 widows from Umuoba Anam in Anambra East local government area of Anambra State, on Thursday benefited from the ‘Feed the Hungry’ programme carried out by the Lagos-based Anthony Village NGChuks Lions Club.

The programme was carried out in memory of the late Mrs Ngozi Chuks Okeke, the founder of the club, who died in 2019 at the age of 55 years.

Items distributed to the women include rice, tomatoes, vegetable oil and other condiments.
The excited women, who came from all the quarters in Umuoba Anam, commended the organizers for remembering them at this period of the year.

A member of the club, Chijioke Achebe said the club decided to touch the lives of the widows in line with what the late Mrs. Okeke stood for, adding that she was a great philanthropist during her lifetime.

Achebe said: “Because the late Lioness Okeke hailed from this community, we decided to bring this feed the widows programme to her home town to cushion the effects of the unfavourable economic situation in the country.

“We also hope to do more for her people because she was indeed a philanthropist of no mean feat and for her people to enjoy what other people were enjoying when she was alive.

“The club will also carry out other projects in her name as part of efforts to immortalize her name”

According to him, Lions Club is considering embarking on medical outreach at Umuoba Anam next year to serve as a constant reminder of the wonderful contributions of their daughter to humanity.

“We sponsor many projects in her name, including eye screening, computer training for youths who are about to gain admission into the universities and we will soon complete skills acquisition center so that students can go there to update their knowledge
