The governorship bid of Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Paul Chukwuma, received a major boost yesterday as Obi Nnewichi, His Highness, Obi George Onyekaba, openly declared his full support for the party ahead of the November 8 election.

The declaration was made during the YPP campaign tour of Nnewi, which held at the DCC, and was marked by a massive turnout of party supporters and community stakeholders.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Chukwuma expressed gratitude to the people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo local government areas, noting the “infectious warmth” with which the campaign team was received.

He assured the gathering that his administration would place top priority on security, promising to restore peace and order within three months of assuming office.

“Nnewi is the hub of commercial activities in Anambra, and without security, business cannot thrive. We will make sure that safety returns quickly so that commerce can flourish again,” he said.

Chukwuma also lamented the deplorable condition of roads in Nnewi, describing it as “very unfortunate.” He pledged that road rehabilitation would be treated with urgency and elevated to a core priority of his government.

On economic development, the YPP candidate unveiled plans for a robust policy framework to sustain and modernize the traditional apprenticeship system.

He said the initiative would extend opportunities to youths without higher education, backed by a proposed ₦200 billion venture capital fund targeted at the business community.

“This will help us reclaim our dwindling advantage in commerce, industry, and innovation,” Chukwuma stated.

With the endorsement from Obi Nnewichi and the massive reception in Nnewi, observers say the YPP has further cemented its stronghold in the industrial town, positioning itself as a formidable force in the November polls.
