The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, has commended the efforts of journalists in deepening democracy.
Obi gave the commendation on Tuesday in Awka, the Anambra State, during the meeting of the Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists( NUJ), Anambra State Council.
He hailed the media for their unrelenting efforts in carrying out their responsibility and to always uphold professional ethics for the benefit of society.
Represented by his media aide, Mr Val Obienyem, Obi tasked the pen pushers not to relent in playing their roles despite all odds at a time like this.
Recalling how members of the chapel, and other journalists in the state assisted his administration when he was the governor of the state, Obi pledged continuous support for the media in the state.
Speaking, the Chairman of the Anambra State Correspondents Chapel, Chief Chuks Ilozue, commended the former governor of the state for his demonstrable commitment in the affairs of his members and journalists generally in the state.
Ilozue hailed the cordial working relationship that existed between members of the chapel and the Obi government, stating that the chapel would maintain that cordiality.
Amongst the highlights of the Tuesday meeting were strategic decisions by chapel on how to go about reporting the state responsibly, especially as the 2025 governorship election in the state approaches.
The meeting was held at the late Ms Tochukwu Udorji-Omelu Hall at the Ezeemo Press Centre, NUJ State Secretariat, Awka, Anambra State.
