Enugu on Thursday hosted a high-level gathering of political heavyweights under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in what observers have described as a decisive move to strengthen the party’s structure and regional influence ahead of future electoral contests.
The strategic meeting brought together an array of prominent political figures from across the South-East, including former Anambra State Governor and widely regarded political leader, Peter Obi; former Imo State Governors, Achike Udenwa and Emeka Ihedioha; and Senator representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh.
Also in attendance was Mr. John Chuma Nwosu, the 2025 ADC governorship candidate in Anambra State, whose participation underscored his increasing prominence within the party’s evolving leadership structure.
Other key figures present included Chief Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, the ADC Deputy Governorship candidate in Anambra State; Rt. Hon. Barr. Ben Chuks Nwosu, Chairman of the party’s MMRRC in Anambra; Hon. Peter Aniekwe of Anambra East and West Federal Constituency; and Hon. Onyebuchi Offor, among several other stakeholders.
Sources familiar with the deliberations described the meeting as “timely and strategic,” with discussions centering on party cohesion, ongoing grassroots mobilisation, and the articulation of a clear roadmap towards upcoming political engagements, particularly the 2027 general elections.
Though proceedings were held largely behind closed doors, insiders hinted at a strong emphasis on unity, inclusiveness, and effective leadership as critical pillars for repositioning the party within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Observers noted that the convergence of such influential leaders signals a renewed determination by the ADC to consolidate its presence in the South-East and expand its national appeal.
The participation of Mr. John Nwosu, in particular, was seen as indicative of the party’s efforts to broaden its leadership base and deepen engagement with emerging political actors.
Political analysts say the Enugu meeting could mark a significant turning point for the ADC, as it seeks to harness the collective strength of its leaders to build momentum and present a more formidable front ahead of the 2027 polls.
Stakeholders at the meeting reportedly expressed optimism that the outcomes of their deliberations would translate into a more coordinated and impactful political strategy in the months ahead.
