Obi Should Not Contest, Tinubu Will Sweep votes in All Southern States – Joe Igbokwe

News

A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has made a bold prediction that all Southern states in Nigeria will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Igbokwe’s comments came as the APC seeks to consolidate its power and maintain its grip on the country’s political landscape.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Igbokwe expressed confidence that even states currently under the control of opposition parties will rally behind the APC during the next general election.

Apparently saying that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, should not venture to contest the 2027 poll, Igbokwe said, “No single state in Southern Nigeria, regardless of its party affiliation, will vote for any party other than APC in 2027. Please know this and have inner peace. It is what it is.”

Igbokwe’s prediction is significant, given the complex political dynamics in Nigeria’s Southern region.

The region has traditionally been a stronghold of opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party.

However, recent developments, such as the defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori from the PDP to the APC, have sparked speculation about a potential shift in allegiances.

Some analysts believe that Igbokwe’s comments may be part of a broader strategy by the APC to woo opposition leaders and supporters in the South.

Others, however, see it as a mere prediction based on the party’s growing influence in the region.

The APC has been working to strengthen its presence in the South, with some governors and politicians from opposition parties showing interest in joining the ruling party.

If Igbokwe’s prediction holds true, it could significantly boost President Tinubu’s re-election chances and cement the APC’s dominance in Nigerian politics.

As the 2027 general election approaches, the political landscape in Nigeria is expected to become increasingly fluid, with parties and politicians jostling for position.

Igbokwe’s comments have added fuel to the speculation, and it remains to be seen how the opposition parties will respond to the APC’s growing confidence.
