A Toyota Corolla driver on Wednesday evening lost control of his car in Awka, ramming into a stationary refuse dump truck, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.
The driver whose car was damaged before repair however survived, but killed a man who was said to have just alighted from a commercial bus minutes before the accident.
According to eyewitnesses, the Toyota Camry driver had lost speed, then ran over a man as it made its way to the stationary truck.
“The victim, is a man in his late thirties, and was identified as Ebuka. He was said to had alighted from a commercial bus, minutes before the tragedy.
“The victim was crushed, and pushed into the gutter. He died instantly, while the driver of the Toyota Camry who was in critical condition was rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, same as the body of the deceased,” a source said.
Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC as at the time of filling this report had just arrived the area, and were working to clear the wrecked vehicle from the road.
