Member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Prof Lilian Orogbu, has debunked stories making the rounds that National Assembly lawmakers were given cash by the Federal Government to procure Christmas rice for their constituents as pallatives.

Orogbu in a statement by her media team, titled: CLARIFICATION ON THE PALLIATIVE DISTRIBUTION TO CONSTITUENTS, described such stories as false and malicious allegations against the federal lawmakers.

Promising equitable distribution of the federal government’s palliatives, Orogbu said, she had procured and delivered 2,570 bags of rice to the 34 wards in the constituency.

The statement read in part, “We are writing to you with regard to the distribution of the rice palliatives for our constituency. These palliatives were allocated by the federal government through the National Assembly Contractor to ease the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and other national challenges.

“We are happy to announce that we have successfully procured and delivered *2570 bags of rice* to all the 34 wards in the constituency on *Monday, December 25, 2023*. We also ensured that some stakeholders such as the PGs, community women and youth leaders, widows, disabled, and groups of non-indigenes from different states received their fair share of the palliatives.

“However, we have been made aware of some false and malicious allegations that senators and House of Reps members received *100 million and 200 million naira cash* respectively from the federal government to procure palliatives for their constituents. This is a baseless and unfounded claim that seeks to tarnish the reputation of the National Assembly members.

“We want to categorically state that *NASS Members did not receive any cash from the federal government*. Contrary to any misconceptions, Prof. Orogbu did not hoard the relief provisions; instead, she diligently distributed the *2570 bags of rice* she received, which is evident in the provided pictures and videos.

“Dear constituents, we would like to reassure you that you can trust in Prof. Orogbu’s commitment to ensuring that every allocation intended for the constituency will reach you. She is dedicated to providing an equitable, transparent, and accountable representation.

“We hope this clarifies the situation and clears any doubts as we finally rest this issue with this honest write-up.
We thank you for your continued support and trust in Prof. Orogbu.”
