The transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South local government area, Hon. Ogochukwu Ekwueme has commended Anambra First Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo on her healthy living and safety standards techniques program for Orumba North Youths.
Hon Ogochukwu made this remarks while speaking during the Healthy Living Youth Engagement Program with Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo at Ajali, the Orumba North Local Government Headquarters.
Addressing the youths, the Anambra State First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo who spoke virtually to the teaming but joyous Orumba North youths, noted that the major aim of the crusade is to promote responsible and healthy lifestyle as a key to building a livable and prosperous Anambra State. She added that one of the visions of her healthy crusade is to get every Anambra youth on board and see them become leading ambassadors for everything the campaign wishes to achieve.
She also noted that each of the six pillars of her programme has been carefully tailored to address common health, social and environmental threats, and maintained that to get results from ongoing engagements, everyone has to become a critical player.
Mrs Soludo further expressed worry over the increase in drug abuse among youths, as well as preventable sudden deaths that occur as a result of common emergencies, noting that by teaching the youths basic life support skills, life challenging and threatening situations can easily be avoided and averted.
The governor’s wife further applealed to youths to be fully involved in the exercise, with an understanding that they can give the campaign a stronger verve.
Also speaking, the Orumba North Boss, Hon. Ogochukwu stated that the choice of hosting the youth health sensitization program in timely, noting that the youths are the future of every nation, and because health is wealth, he urge the youths to take advantage of the ample opportunity to obtain relevant lessons from the governor’s wife program.
While noting that the local governments in the old Aguata region, which includes Orumba South, Orumba North and Aguata are coming together with a big and special package for their youths, Hon Ogochukwu went further to affirm that a lot of work has already been done to encourage and support the youth to bring out the best in themselves as his administration has ensured thay Orumba North youths also keyed into the one youth, two skills program and the solution innovative district (SID)”
“One of our focus area is skill aquisition, We have start engaging the youths leaders and partnering with relevant stakeholders to come up with some proposal to help and support the youths to the best of our ability.”
While appreciating Governor Soludo for bestowing the confidence bestowed on him as the transition committee chairman of Orumba North council area to push the Solution Agenda to every part of the community, Hon Ogochukwu Mrs Soludo for taking her programme to the grassroots, and promised to mobilize support to help the crusade succeed in the area.
Hon Ogochukwu further encourage the youths to keep positively engage themselves at all times.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike stated that a crucial aspect of the engagements is to equip youths with the basic knowledge of the programme. He gave a teaching on the elementary techniques for basic life support, noting that with the rising cases of cardiovascular related mortalities, youths who learnt the techniques can become great assets for the full programme implementation
Dr Obidike further stated that the youths are relevant key players to lasting impact of the healthy living crusade, noting that the Healthy Living Program with Nonye Soludo is a health-based non-political crusade founded by Anambra Governor’s wife and has been engaging critical stakeholders to ensure that the core message of the campaign becomes a household culture in all Anambra homes.
On his part, the Youth Leader of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Comrade Ken Okoli, stated the essence of the ongoing grassroots engagements is to expand the scope of the programme to involve youths, who would then lead the campaign in their respective communities.
Youth leaders and representatives from the sixteen communities in Orumba North, corps members and members of the transition committee of the local government, were also at the event.
Special teaching and practical sessions by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Red Cross Society on the effects of drug abuse and basic life support (BLS) added climaxed the event.
