Over 2,000 supporters of Hon. Barr Lawrence Ezeudu have joined the former lawmaker to declare membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The supporters where drawn mostly from his Ifitedunu community and around Dunukofia Local Government Area, where Ezeudu is regarded as a strong force and political leader.
Ezeudu was a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly and also Chief Whip of the house, and had previously contested for the House of Representatives seat for Dunukofia, Njikoka, Anaocha federal constituency.
THE RAZOR gathered that the declaration is not unconnected with the decamping of the former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi to the ADC on 31 December last year.
Ezeudu who was received into the party told members that he has never felt an urgent need to join a political party than he felt in joining ADC, saying that he has seen the zeal of the people to change the country.
He said: “Today is my own Pentecost including all my supporters because we have been baptized into the ADC.
“I have never felt a better need to join a political party than my entry into ADC today because it is very obvious that the APC has failed us and we need to buckle of to save the country from finally torpedoing.
“I want to announce that we in ADC are desperate to change Nigeria, and having taken time to look at the configuration of Nigeria, I can tell you that a new Nigeria is still possible and that is what I’m joining ADC to help effect.”
The defection party was attended by many top member of the ADC in using Deputy Governorship candidate of the party in last year’s election, Dr Ndubuisi Nwobu, chieftains of the party; Prof. Chinyere Okunna, Dr Chris Asoukwu, and others.
Meanwhile, the chairman of African Democratic Congress (ADC) party in Anambra State, Mr Patrick Obianyo confirmed that since former Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi joined the party on December 31, there have been huge Influx of person into the party.
Obianyo disclosed during the event on Saturday that officials of the party have not rested since Peter Obi joined the party as calls from politicians seeking to join them have continued to come.
He said: “There have been requests in our offices everyday for us to visit and receive politicians into our party since Mr Peter Obi joined us. We are here today in Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Local Government Area to receive Hon Barr Lawrence Ezeudu. Tomorrow we will be in another location and it has continued like that since a month now.
“We are urging new members to go to their wards and register. It is true that there is online registration but we urge our members to go to the wards where there will be physically captured and be recognized too as our members.
“Though are membership cards are being deleted daily be new members, but I want to tell you that very soon we will do membership revalidation and then introduce a better features in our cards, and I want to assure that even if the entire 200million Nigerians join us, we will have enough cards for all.”
